About Me

I have been writing creatively for as long as I can remeber. My mom, God bless her, has a framed copy of a poem I wrote about Jesus at the ripe ole age of 6. I wrote a weekly feature's piece for my university newspaper about my adventure's abroad in London, and when the beautiful world of blogging boomed in the early 2000s, I started transferring my scratches of notes and God-given revelations on the World Wide Web.

I grew up reading all.the.time, and as early as high school, I knew I wanted to be a Christian fiction author. For some reason, I thought I had to wait until I had "arrived" at a certain stage of life to start publishing, so I kept my work, most of which was unpolished and unfinished, buried in a gorgeous black trunk that decorates my living room. I was blessed to publish two shorter pieces of my work, but in my mind, I needed to be older to write serious fiction.

And then about ten years ago, God nudged my heart that it was time to get serious about my dream. With a story that I can only say is God-inspired, I spent the next few years writing and editing my first full-length novel, Restless Heart.

I aspire to write contemporary Christian fiction, to write about life events that are real and relatable. Life is not always pretty, but God is always good. I have experienced the the pain of loss and the heartache of unexpected outcomes. I know what anger and bitterness and unforgiveness look like. But I have found freedom in Christ, and I hope, through the power of story, my readers can encounter the grace and the power of Jesus through the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes I feel very unequipped to step into the publishing realm, but I hold fast to what I know: "He who has called you will be faithful to complete it" (Phil 1:6).

My first novel, Restless Heart, won first place in the 2016 Ignite the Flame contest for the Inspirational Genre, and semi-finaled in the 2017 ACFW Genesis contest. My second novel, Harvesting Love, was a finalist in the ACFW First Impressions contest (2017) and a winner in the short novel category for ACFW Genesis (2018).

I am a member of ACFW and am represented by Jim Hart at Hartline Literary Agency

   As a wife,
daughter, sister
   & friend:
Most of the time, I'm just a regular Jane. I am married to a wonderful, supportive man who is my perfect complement. I don't mean to gush, but we have a pretty great life. Lucky for me, he also loves to read, and I'm thankful for the hours of honest feedback he has given me over the years.  We have not yet experienced the joy of children (we are ready whenever God is :)), but we have an 80-pound Weimarenar, Rizzoli, who keeps us entertained.

I have a wonderful support system of family and friends. My husband and I are both on the prayer and ministry team at our church, and we host a weekly life group.
As a     professor:
I teach several writing-intensive courses at the undergraduate and graduate level at a local four-year, private university. I am continually blessed and encouraged by my students, and I am priviledged to teach what I love.

My undergraduate degree is in English and Journalism. I have a Master's degree in English, with a specialization in linguistics, and my PhD is in Technical Communication and Rhetoric.

Courses taught: First-Year Composition, Advanced Grammar, Foundations of Technical Communication, Creative Writing, Introduction to Linguistics, Usage and Style, and Research Writing.
